5 Star Luxury Thatched Cottage in South Uist

A member of the MacKellaig family has crofted on this piece of land since the early 1800’s, when the cottage was first built. It has now been lovingly restored to the highest 5 star standards, as well as at all times considering the environment surrounding it. Throughout the cottage, there is underfloor heating powered by a ground source heat pump and eco-friendly appliances wherever possible in the cottage itself.

Having been in the hotel business for over thirty years, we know just how important it is, you have all the little things you need, to make your stay as comfortable and as memorable as it possibly can be.

Our luxury thatched cottage is nestled in the quiet little crofting community of Kilpheder (Cille Pheadair) just a few minutes walk from tranquil, unspoilt white beaches, also known as the ‘Machair’. You are very likely to see grey seals swimming by the rocky crevices as you walk along this delightful, peaceful coastline on the western side of the Island.

In the other direction, a five minute drive is all it takes to the nearest well stocked shop, post office and garage for fuel.

Daliburgh is also home of ‘Ceolas’ where you can enjoy traditional gaelic entertainment, music and dance. ‘Aite MhicCealaig’ is ideally located for short trips to the, and highly recommended, small Island of Eriskay. On the causeway over, otters are often spotted. There is another wonderful silver sanded beach to enjoy, plus a very well stocked and friendly community shop. En-route back to the cottage, why not stop in at the local pub – ‘Am Politician’ where you are always guaranteed a warm welcome from Julia and her team. She will happily retell the story of the famous shipwreck and what really happened to all the Whisky.
